Become a reader, help with administrative work, or visit listeners to help with receiver set-up.
If you are interested in volunteering with RIS, simply complete the application form or download it and return it to us. Those who want to become readers will need to take a voice test. For more information, contact Tracy O'Neill at (412)488-3944 or toneill@readingservice.org.
In addition to the orientation you'll receive to prepare you for your volunteer task, RIS provides ongoing development sessions with outside speakers and opportunities to interact with listeners. Our bimonthly newsletter, Volunteer Voice, keeps you in touch with agency happenings. Each year RIS holds a volunteer appreciation event, which provides an opportunity to socialize with other volunteers, listeners, board, and staff. But what volunteers seem to enjoy the most is the opportunity to give back what comes from involvement with RIS.
Some quotes from a recent survey state that volunteers, "enjoy the aspect of providing a valuable service to the community", and they also "enjoy the camaraderie and social aspect of volunteering at Radio Information Service." While volunteering at RIS, people "experience a sense of self-satisfaction, accomplishment, or personal enrichment in volunteering endeavors."
